Android SDK Permissions

Why does Appodeal SDK need permissions? Android Manifest file.

android.permission.INTERNET​

Allows SDK to make network requests and, consequently, make requests to Appodeal servers and ad network servers.

android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE​

Allows SDK to know the state of network connection and not to send requests if Internet connection is poor or not available.

android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION / android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION optional​

Location is used for better ad targeting, which can increase ad revenue. Both permissions are optional, and the Appodeal SDK never requests them itself — it reads the device location only if your app has already declared and been granted one of them:

  • With ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION, approximate location is collected.
  • With ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, precise location is collected.

Without any location permission, ads are targeted by IP. Declare the collected data accordingly in your App Privacy Details on Google Play.

Per Google Play policy, request location permissions only for features beneficial to the user and core to your app — not solely for advertising or analytics. If you do not use location for your app's core functionality, do not declare these permissions.

If you don't want the SDK to read location, remove the permission(s) from AndroidManifest.xml:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" tools:node="remove" />

android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE optional​

This is used by some video ad networks on older Android versions. If your app doesn't need it, remove it from AndroidManifest.xml:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" tools:node="remove" />

android.permission.ACCESS_WIFI_STATE optional​

This is used by some ad networks for better performance.
